The Color Run Manicure!

Wow!  It's been a little while.  I have been in the process of moving into a new place, so I've been quite occupied.  We got a winner for my first giveaway!

I participated in The Color Run in Pomona a few weeks ago and of course had to paint my nails to match the occassion!  If you have never heard of The Color Run, it is a 5k fun run where volunteers douse you with colored powder.  It's a blast!  Here's a cool video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EERSfHiqT8&feature=share&list=PLgPbppOsSu8PWIXHyqwk2jcZRN07E1vLy.  I took the color scheme from my running shirt.  I used Zoya's Creamy for yellow, Essie's Orange It's Obvious! for orange, China Glaze's Wicked Style for pink, and Ulta's Salon Formula in Blue Streak for blue.

I highly recommend The Color Run.  I would definitely do another one!

April 2013 - Julep Maven

April's Julep Maven box was themed 'The Brights' with some pretty intensely bright colors.  I was happy with the two colors I received.

My two 'brights' I got were Kaylen which is a bright orange and Lena which is a shimmery teal.  I wouldn't quite call either one neon but they are bold and fun for spring and summer.  Kaylen is more creamy and a solid color.  Lena is GORGEOUS!  I cannot wait to get this on my toes!  :)  It is my favorite color, but it has this amazing shimmer in it.

The extra item this month was "Mighty" nail and cuticle serum.  It is supposed to help dry and damaged cuticles overnight.  It has a twist brush applicator which is nice.  I haven't used it yet because I'm still using my Julep cuticle oil I got in my first box over a year and a half ago.  That stuff lasts FOREVER!  Amazing.

Also included was this cute little rock candy.  I don't think it is flavored, but if it is, I'll be happy.  I'm not big on just eating sugar flavored sugar.  Fun addition.

What is your favorite 'bright' polish?

OPI - The Living Daylights over Nails Inc. - Black Taxi

It's been a while since I've been able to post!  Today, I share with you "The Living Daylights" from OPI's Skyfall James Bond 007 collection.  This polish always intrigued me and I decided to try it out for myself.  It is chunky glitter in a clear polish.  The glitter is gold, silver, teal, and this peachy orange/red color.  Perfect color combo for fall!  I chose to put it over a black base, so I used Nails Inc.'s "Black Taxi".  I'm still getting used to this combo, but I think I'll really grow to like it.

Black Taxi was very easy to apply.  It has a slight 'jelly' quality when applying. It needed two coats to be fully opaque.  I love this polish and I'd definitely wear it by itself in the future.

The Living Daylights was very goopy and clumpy, but that worked as a benefit because it made the glitter stick together.  I hate when glitter polishes do not get on the brush.  I used two coats of this so make the glitter more apparent and full on my nails.

What do you all think of this manicure?  Do you suggest any other colors from the 007 collection?

My Birthday Mani!

I wanted to wear something fun on my nails for my birthday and I came up with this.  I color blocked Essie's "Orange, It's Obvious!" and China Glaze's "Wicked Style".  I really like the way these two look together and it's a festive combination great for the summer!  Here are some more pictures:

Orange, It's Obvious! is a bright opaque orange.  I got out my Crayola collection and this is exactly the same color as the "Orange Red" color.  It does have a little bit of a red tint to it.  This color is part of Essie's Spring 2012 collection.  It's such a bold color for Essie that it really stood out to me and I gave in and purchased it.  It only took two coats, but it was rather runny leaving me with a good mess in my cuticle beds to clean up.  The nice thing was that it cleaned up easily....

Wicked Style is from China Glaze's Electropop Spring 2012 collection.  It is a bright fuchsia color.  It's gorgeous and something I wouldn't mind wearing on my toes all summer long.  This went on really nice, but it did leave some small bubbles.  The smallest bubbles I've actually ever had with nail polish.

I like the fact that these are really bright bold summer colors, but they aren't quite neons.  It's a small change up from the neon craze, though I'll return to it shortly!  :)

What are some good combo's that you like to color block with?
